Fish product delivery rules
The transportation of frozen and chilled fish in refrigerated units requires strict adherence to regulated temperature and humidity levels, as mandated by standards and regulations. The following rules apply during the shipment of chilled products.
- During transit, the driver responsible for the cargo must monitor and maintain the required temperature and humidity levels inside the van.
- Fish and seafood must be tightly packed in the vehicle without gaps. Secure stacking prevents thawing in case of an emergency.
- Special pallets are used to store the goods, preventing the fish from sticking to the floor and ensuring proper air circulation.
- Loading and arranging the products are carried out in strict compliance with regulations.
- Transporting fish requiring different temperature regimes in the same refrigerated unit is prohibited.

What is classified as seafood.
Seafood includes:
- crustaceans - crabs, shrimp, as well as lobsters and langoustines;
- mollusks - oysters, octopuses, mussels, as well as scallops, squids and cuttlefish;
- seaweeds - kelp, spirulina, dulse and carrageen.
This product group includes fish roe. A separate category of seafood consists of sea urchins and sea cucumbers.
Transportation of fish products
Frozen fish is transported in the van in small portions in boxes or on pallets. The capacity of the boxes depends on the size of the fish and ranges around 50-80 kg. The fish box is lined inside with a special insulating material, which can be replaced with paper. The boxes are stacked in even rows tightly and covered with ice to maintain the required cargo temperature. During transportation, it is necessary to maintain the required temperature and humidity levels. Otherwise, the fish will crystallize, its texture will be damaged, and the taste will deteriorate.
Special requirements apply to the transportation of chilled fish, which is only shipped over short distances. This is due to the limited shelf life of chilled fish products. The containers are equipped with special drainage devices for water runoff. Chilled products can also be transported in barrels with a capacity of about 80 kg. The bottom of the barrels is filled with ice, which is also suitable for packing the fish.
Smoked fish is transported in boxes with ventilation holes. The fish are stacked on top of each other, separated by paper. The packaging must include product information - packaging date, weight, product type, and expiration date. The labeling must be clear.
Sanitary and Hygiene Standards
According to sanitary standards, the vehicle must be equipped with powerful refrigeration equipment that meets international transportation standards. It is prohibited to transport fish with other food products. Additionally, other rules must be followed. The driver is required to periodically check the temperature and humidity levels in the van. Their responsibilities include monitoring the packaging of fish products. Boxes and cardboard containers must not be damaged. Special pallets that ensure air circulation must be used during loading.

Cargo documentation and driver requirements
The cargo must be accompanied by the following documents:

- product consignment note;
- transportation contract;
- veterinary certificate issued in a standardized format.
The delivery of fish products in the Customs Union countries is regulated by the authorities of each specific region. Sanitary requirements also apply to vehicles:
- the vehicle must have a sanitary certificate confirming its suitability for this type of transportation while maintaining product quality and freshness;
- Before departure, the refrigerated truck undergoes sanitization. Upon completion, a certificate is issued confirming the vehicle's safety and readiness for fish transportation.
Special requirements apply to drivers handling deliveries:
- experience in transporting perishable goods, ability to maintain specified temperature and humidity levels in the van;
- regular advanced training and a valid sanitary record;
- ability to load and unload fish at the locations specified in the contract;
- skills in preparing the refrigerated unit before starting an order;
The driver must promptly make correct decisions in non-standard situations.
Vehicle requirements
To ensure standard conditions for fish transportation, the vehicle must be properly prepared. First, the refrigerated unit is prepared by cleaning its interior, followed by disinfection procedures. The van is cooled to maintain the required temperature for the fish products stored inside. The temperature inside the van should be kept 2 degrees lower to compensate for cold loss during loading and unloading.
Loading is carried out quickly while maintaining the required temperature. In winter, there are no additional loading requirements, but in summer, loading must take place in a refrigerated warehouse. This prevents thawing of fish products. At the recipient's warehouse, the fish is promptly placed in small batches into freezer storage. If unloading is delayed, the fish is packed in ice to prevent thawing.

Maintaining the temperature regime
The temperature of the transported cargo depends on the type of freezing:
- dry-frozen products are transported at temperatures below -18 degrees;
- wet-frozen goods are transported at temperatures no higher than -12 degrees;
- naturally frozen fish products are transported at -6 degrees.
Transporting fish products in refrigerated units is justified because these vehicles use an automated monitoring system for temperature and humidity levels. These parameters are maintained throughout the entire journey. The van is equipped with sensors that read temperature and humidity and transmit the data to the system.
